A tarot journal is a conversation with your future self
The most revealing part of a reading may arrive when you return to it. A journal preserves the circumstances, feelings, and choices that are easy to forget once life moves on.
Capture the moment before interpreting it
Write the date, your question, and a few lines about what is happening. Describe what you know separately from what you fear or hope. That distinction makes later reflection much more useful.
A simple entry you can reuse
- My situation: What happened? Why am I asking now?
- My question and cards: Record the question, positions, and upright or reversed cards.
- What stood out: Which idea resonated? Which part did not fit?
- My next step: Choose one action within your control.
- My review: After taking action, what happened and what do I see differently?
Example: deciding whether to change jobs
Before the reading: “I feel exhausted, but I do not know whether the problem is my role or the current workload.”
After the reading: “I noticed I am treating leaving and staying as the only options. This week I will ask which responsibilities can change.”
At the review: “The conversation clarified that some duties can move. I still want to explore other roles, but I now have a less urgent timeline.”
Look for patterns without rewriting the past
Keep the original entry intact and add your later observations separately. Note misses and surprises as honestly as apparent matches. Ask whether your needs changed, whether you learned something new, or whether your own action influenced the outcome.
